If you’re ready to uncover instructional, inspiring books to read to and with your family, to build strong family relationships by reading, talking and living together, and to prepare your children for life and eternity with great books & activities, then join us for Treasure Box Books! Hi, I’m Nathan Ching, a redeemed child of God, happy husband and homeschooling dad, and lifelong lover of good books. For years--even before I became a father--I eagerly looked forward to leading my children to know, love, and serve God. As a young man, I realized that reading, beginning first with the Bible, then other books, unlocked my understanding. The Old Testament prophet said, ”I Daniel understood by books….” When I prayed about how to train my children for God, I became convinced that reading to and with my children would be an essential element in helping them to delight in God and do His will. While I can’t claim to have perfected the art of leading my family, I am happy to say that the Lord has taught me practical, useful lessons--lessons I believe would serve other dads as they lead their families. That’s what this podcast is all about. There are treasures to be found in books that simply can’t be found anywhere else. 028 | Keep Daddy and Mommy Times
Tuesday Jan 30, 2024
Tuesday Jan 30, 2024
Hey Fellow Dad,
Proverbs 23:26 instructs a son to “give” his heart to his father and to let his eyes “observe” his father’s ways. What a beautiful picture of an ideal father-son relationship!
We all hope our kids can emulate us. But are you, as a dad, intentionally leading your children to want to have that kind of relationship with you?
In this episode, my wife Kristin joined me to talk about a simple way for parents and children to build a weekly routine of one-on-one times together. (We also had an unexpected appearance by our two-year old son.)

Key Thoughts
- Do dads have an implied responsibility in our children giving us their hearts and observing our ways?
- Dads, spend time with all your children and be sure to spend time with each of your children.
- Keep daddy times light and fun, drawing your children's hearts to your own, causing them to want to give you their hearts.
- Workable processes may take years to develop. None of us are really experts. Allow yourself to make mistakes as you progress in growing, asking God for wisdom all the while.

026 | Nourish Your Children's Faith
Tuesday Jan 16, 2024
Tuesday Jan 16, 2024
Hey Dads,
We hear about so many young people who have grown up in Christian homes but left the faith. We can’t guarantee that our children will follow God, but we can find ways to help encourage a thinking, vibrant faith in God’s word . . . including using books!
--Nathan
Quotes
Just as healthy plants need nourishment, our children need nourishment too. Specifically, their faith in God and His word needs nourishment. How do we, as fathers, provide that nourishment to their souls? In this episode, I list five practical tips to help you nourish your children's souls in trusting God.
We're not promoting mindless belief and blind faith; we strongly believe in thinking through questions, we cherish the responsibility of finding out why we should or should not believe certain things; and we want to nourish inquisitiveness in our children's minds.
You and I don't have to be experts or feel expert in a particular field to speak confidently about God's word.
"Why would you put your faith in something that can't supported by evidence?"-- J. Warner Wallace
Tips for Nourishing Your Children’s Faith
- Consider their age and level of understanding.
- Confidently teach them the truth of God’s word.
- Consistently keep the truths of God's word before them.
- Have a daily family Bible time (links: Lead Your Family to and in the Bible and Use Tools To Teach Your Children The Bible)
- Read books that encourage faith in God’s word (links: Spread a Feast for Your Family and God of the Aurora Part 1 and Part 2).
- Read books that lead to discussion about what is true (links: Why Stories Matter and Entertain to Educate with Stories).
- Correct falsehood as it arises.
- Capture teachable moments.
- CONVERSE with your children regularly.

024 | Lead Your Family to and in the Bible
Monday Jan 01, 2024
Monday Jan 01, 2024
Hey Fellow Dads!
Do you ever listen to the news and feel like the world is one big bounce house—and you're trying to stand in it? I know I do. This is a rapidly changing world. Two words come to mind to describe this world: unpredictability and instability.
But there is something we as dads can do for our families throughout the year, that will give them a stability that just isn't found in this ever-changing world. We’ve got to lead them to the word of God and in the word of God.
So on this first day of 2024, in this episode--#24--I lay out five very simple, doable practices you can begin implementing today to lead your family to the Bible and in the Bible.
Happy New Year!
Nathan
Main Ideas
- Select a passage.
- Set a daily time that works for the whole family.
- Study the passage.
- Simply explain the scripture text
- Seek for the practical application. Ask, how can the truth in this text be used in our lives?
- Bonus Suggestion: Supplicate! Ask for God’s help and guidance and power to obey what He has taught us in that passage.
💡See the show notes at https://refreshpublishing.com/024-lead-your-family-to-and-in-the-bible for more details, recommended books, and a list of recommended Scriptures for getting started with family Bible time.
There are treasures to be found only in books, but the greatest treasure is found in the greatest book, and if you will read that Book, you'll find great treasure there!
Fellow dads, as we plunge into 2024, let's be sure to prioritize leading our families to the Bible and in the Bible!
